Report of a FT interview with France's Finance Minister Christine Lagarde, February 2009, in which she discussed the global economic crisis. She said that world leaders must press ahead with plans to tighten regulation of financial markets if they want to restore confidence to a battered global economy.

France would also press for tighter controls on hedge funds, urging other big industrialised nations to strengthen regulation of the industry and compel banks that lend them money to hold more capital.
