The number of jobs open to foreign workers through the shortage occupation route will be reduced by 200,000, the UK government announced on 11 November 2008. The cut in positions from one million to just under 800,000 will make sure only those foreign workers that are needed will be able to move to the UK. The move is part of the new Australian-style points based system, which the government is launching on 27 November 2008. |
