Nato urged to bolster Baltic defence

Article reports that the US called on Nato on the 3 September 2008 to be better prepared to defend the three Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – from military attack, after Russia’s August 2008 incursion into Georgia.

Article also reports on a visit by US Vice-President Dick Cheney Azerbaijan at the start of a tour of the region to show support to US allies in the former Soviet Union. He was also due to visit Ukraine and Georgia.
