The French Prime Minister, François Fillon, slashed France’s growth forecast for 2008 on the 1 September 2008, pointing to a 'very, very serious global economic slowdown'. He said he expected the economy to expand by a 'little more than 1 per cent', whereas the government had been predicting growth of between 1.7 and 2%.
