Making a decisive impact on the eradication of poverty by 2010 was one of the key objectives EU leaders set themselves in 2000.

Less than three years before the announced deadline, EAPN organized a seminar on 13-14 September 2007 to assess the reasons behind the loss of momentum in the fight against poverty in the EU, but also ways to develop innovative thinking and strategies towards a more social Europe (in particular ahead of the 2010 Year Against Poverty).

Intended above all as a brainstorming exercise bringing together actors from different horizons (from local to EU, NGOs, but also trade unions, decision-makers, academics), the seminar was organized around participatory workshops, where participants had the opportunity to discuss what they identified as key obstacles and necessary steps.

Better awareness raising, the promotion of fundamental rights and participation of people experiencing poverty, but also the reform of the OMC on social inclusion, scored high in the debates.
