The increasing internationalisation of the world economy, the shift in industrial output from high to lower labour cost regions and the emergence of a group of countries with rapidly developing economies are features of globalisation. This publication looks at how far globalisation has affected industrial production. Information has been gathered on production indices for a range of economies, principally the EU, China, India, Japan, Russia and the United States. The evolution of industrial output within each of these economies is examined and those activities that have reported the most rapid growth / biggest declines are listed.
