German business sentiment has fallen sharply in April 2008 as Europe’s largest economy showed signs of weakening in the face of global economic storms. The Munich-based Ifo institute reported its business climate index had dropped from 104.8 in March 2008 to 102.4 in April, the lowest since January 2006. The news coincided with the German government’s announcement that it was cutting its growth estimate for 2009.
