Patent statistics. Applying PATSTAT – new generation methodological concepts

The first part of the publication shows the most recent figures for patent applications to the European Patent Office (EPO) and patents granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO); furthermore, it explains the new methodological concept. The second part takes a closer look at foreign ownership of patent applications and patents. The last part deals with triadic patent family data, showing a breakdown by main economies for the years 1996 and 2001. Some additional information on the recent positive developments in the reform of the European patent system is also provided.
