Summary: The new system to support the EU’s border-free zone will be delayed until the second half of 2009. The Schengen Information System II (SIS II), which was supposed to have been in place by now, was initially delayed until the end of this year. But member states have asked that the new system, an upgraded computer database allowing better exchange of information between the member states and the storing of biometric data, be further delayed to between June and September 2009. |
