Galileo headquarters

Transport ministers on 12 December failed to reduce the list of 11 candidate cities to host the satellite navigation system Galileo. The Czech Republic, which is pressing the case of Prague, led calls for the Galileo headquarters to be in one of the new member states. Member states are being asked to discuss possible future uses and applications of Galileo in a four-month consultation launched on 8 December.

The European Commission has delayed adopting a proposal aimed at cleaning up member states’ patchwork of different rules for copyright levies on blank recording media and digital music file players such as Apple’s iPod.
