MEPs seek to restrict police access to visa data

Summary:

MEPs will next week try to win assurances from member states that police will not be given unfettered access to a database which will contain information on people on short-stay visas in the EU.

The Visa Information System (VIS) will store data to prevent "visa shopping", where individuals who have failed to get an entry visa from one EU member state seek a visa from another.
