Justice and interior ministers this week (4-5 December) agreed to admit nine member states into the Schengen area with the lifting of land and sea borders by January 2008 and air borders by March 2008. Cyprus will keep some restrictions. The centre-right EPP-ED group in the European Parliament has been forced to change its rules of procedure to avoid damaging splits over who should lead the group until 2009. |
