Summary: Poverty affects all ages, but children and disproportionately affected by it. In some European countries more than one child in four grows up suffering from poverty and deprivation. Poverty always mean fewer opportunities, curtailed dreams and wasted potential. But in the case of children it is our future that is at stake. Lack of opportunities now all too often will have long-term consequences for the individuals concerned and for society as a whole. Swift action will instead pay off now as well as bear fruit in the years to come, because fighting child poverty is the most effective way to prepare a brighter future for Europe. |
