Understanding enlargement. The European Union’s enlargement policy

The purpose of this brochure is to explain in a clear and concise way what the EU’s enlargement policy is about and how it is put into practice. It aims to give the reader an overview of how the EU has grown since its creation, where it stands today after having undergone its most important round of enlargement in 2004/2007, and what the perspective of accepting new members in the future is.
