The number of migrant workers entering Wales from Eastern Europe has rocketed since eight former Soviet Bloc countries were admitted to the European Union in May 2004. Since then, the Welsh labour force, particularly in some areas, has been significantly augmented by workers from those countries, which include Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Latvia. The numbers have been reinforced further by the admission of Romania and Bulgaria at the start of 2007.
