National parliaments’ role in EU affairs improved by new Treaty

The new Lisbon Treaty, the role it gives to national parliamentarians, and the treaty ratification process were the main topics for members of the 27 EU national parliaments and of the European Parliament who took part in a fourth joint meeting on the future of Europe at the European Parliament in Brussels on 3-4 December 2007. Most speakers agreed the role of national parliaments would be enhanced by the new Treaty.
