United Kingdom Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, gave his approval at the informal European Council, Lisbon, 18-19 October 2007, to a new EU Treaty of Lisbon, knowing that he faced months of claims that he had signed up to a thinly disguised version of the rejected European constitution.
