Press Release: Andris Piebalgs visits a large solar plant in Portugal ahead of the Commission’s renewables framework directive

Energy Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs, visited on 2 October 2007 what is considered to be the world's most powerful solar power plant located in Serpa, southern Portugal. The visit takes place two months before the adoption of Commission's proposals to make possible the Renewables' binding target of 20% of Europe's energy consumption by 2020.
