According to provisional data of the Federal Statistical Office in Germany issued August 2007, net lending of general government amounted to EUR 1.2 billion in the first half of 2007. In the same period of the previous year, the deficit resulting from the balance of government revenue and expenditure amounted to EUR 23.0 billion. With the exception of the second half of 2000 when high income was earned from auctioning UMTS licences, budget deficits had continuously been recorded since German unification. The significant increase in revenue was attributable to the strong rise in fiscal revenues (+10.4%).
