On the road with the euro

DG ECFIN of the European Commission has launched a new travelling exhibition with the aim of communicating the facts, the figures, and the benefits of the single currency to the general public. With many Member States preparing to adopt the euro over the next decade, the push to inform citizens about the single currency is gaining momentum. Of course, most of us know what it is, but do we know why it came about, and how? Surveys from when euro cash was launched in 2002 reveal that in those countries where the general public were well informed, the euro was also well received. So, informing citizens on the euro is a critical part of preparations for entry into the euro area.
