Wellington has consistently argued that political and economic issues should be kept separate. After a meeting with German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder last week, New Zealand Prime Minister Jenny Shipley said the two sides were now ready to sign a political declaration, rather than a formal treaty as was originally planned. |
