Press Release: Parliamentarians call for a sustained fight against terrorism and for respect of human rights

An inter-parliamentary conference on combating terrorism took place in St Petersburg (Tavrichesky Palace) from 27 to 28 March 2002, co-organised by the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS). The purpose of the conference was to provide the broadest possible political support for the international fight against terrorism and to agree on conditions - in particular with regard to respect for human rights and the rule of law - in which this campaign should be carried out.
