On 18 September 2001 the EU welcomed the fact that the Working Party charged with preparing China's accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) had concluded its task successfully. The conclusion of the work of the Working Party on China's accession to the WTO resulted in the finalisation of some 800 pages of legal documents setting out the commitments to be taken upon accession. The one outstanding issue of interest to the EU, notably the terms under which life insurance companies can operate in China, was successfully resolved in the final text, fully and faithfully reflecting the terms of the bilateral agreement completed between China and the EU earlier in 2001.
