Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on the presidential elections in Honduras

The European Union welcomed the holding of free and peaceful elections in Honduras on 27th of November 2005 and expressed its sincere congratulations to the President-elect Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales. This election was the first organized after the approval of the new Law for elections and political organizations and the European Union urged all political parties of Honduras to keep on strengthening the institutionalisation of the electoral processes.

The European Union also insured that they would continue its support for the democratic, economic and social development of Honduras. The EU looked forward to strengthening its ties with Honduras, in particular within the framework of regional cooperation with Central America.
