This document invites views on European Commission proposals to amend the guidelines governing regional aid (which define assisted areas and aid intensities allowed within them) after 2006. Against the background of EU Enlargement and European Council decisions to move towards less and better targetted state aid, the proposals would result in reductions in eligibility for such aid in the UK and other longer standing Member States, though additional levels of aid would be permitted for SMEs outside the assisted areas. This consultation seeks the views of all interested parties to help inform the Government's response to the Commission's proposals. Deadline for responses: 6 September 2004. |
