Choices on Cyprus

Editorial considers the situation in Cyprus following the election of a new President, Tassos Papadopoulos, on 16 February 2003. His appointment has shed doubt over United Nations plans for a confederal power-sharing system on the divided island. The last feasible date set by the United Nations for an agreement is 28 February 2003, since the island is to sign its Treaty of Accession to the European Union on 16 April 2003.
