Press Release: The future of Europe’s cities: the European City Summit in Noordwijk and Leiden (The Netherlands)

More than 600 representatives from cities in all EU member states were meeting in the Dutch cities of Noordwijk and Leiden on 18 and 19 October for the European City Summit. The European Commission and the Dutch Presidency had invited mayors, regeneration agencies, community groups and other stakeholders to discuss new challenges for cities in the enlarged EU. The agenda included a discussion of the Commission's proposals for future European policy in this field and the presentation of new data on the economic and social situation in European cities. Following on from London in 2002 and Milan in 2003, this was the third European City Summit.
