Will hydrogen one day be used to fuel our cars and heat our homes? Considerable progress is being made in developing the technology. But more research is required to ensure the optimum use of the new energy carrier. The European Commission is lending its weight to the process by creating a multidisciplinary group to examine all aspects of a hydrogen economy, including the infrastructure, and financing the preparation of the international standards it will require.
