Date: 19/06/03 THE European Investment Bank has signed a €90 million loan to fund urban renewal in the Serbian capital Belgrade. Ewald Nowotny, vice-president of the Luxembourg-based bank, said the loan would be part of an integrated programme to rebuild tram tracks and major arteries of the city's street network. He said the loan would help to ease congestion, reduce journey times and running costs for private car users, public transport users and operators alike. The EU-owned bank will target other projects across Serbia and Montenegro later this year, he added. These will include road and rail deals, with special focus on improvements in the Belgrade to Novi Sad highway. |
