European Voice celebrates its first birthday this week.

In the 12 months since its launch on 5 October 1995, the newspaper has gone from strength to strength, reaching an ever-wider audience with its mixture of ground-breaking news stories, penetrating analysis of the stories behind the headlines, extensive business coverage, lively profiles, thought-provoking features and in-depth surveys on key topics facing the Union.

In just one year, circulation has climbed to more than 15,000, with subscribers in all 15 EU capitals and in many countries outside the Union, from Central and Eastern Europe to the United States and Asia.

A string of exclusive stories on topics ranging from the single currency, taxation and media concentration to the future of the Common Agricultural Policy have already made

European Voice required reading for all those, both inside and outside the EU's institutions, who need to know - and understand - what is happening in the Union and how it could affect them.

We believe we have lived up to our promise to alert our readers to key proposals in the pipeline - and explain what they mean -- long before they capture the headlines elsewhere, and without the national or political bias which colours so much of what is written about the Union. We hope we have also entertained.
