Population in Europe 2004: First results

This publication provides the first results on main demographic trends in Europe 2004. The results are derived from the demographic data collection conducted jointly by the Council of Europe and Eurostat. They provide data on the Member States of the European Union as well as on the other countries that are Members of the Council of Europe.

Some figures presented in this publication are provisional or estimates. Additional and more definitive information will be published in the forthcoming annual reports of the Council of Europe (‘Recent demographic developments in Europe 2005’) and Eurostat (‘Population statistics 2006’).
