Article reports on a ruling in the European Court of Justice on 12 January 2006 stipulating that companies unwittingly involved in a chain of transactions where carousel fraud occurred should still have the right to reclaim VAT in respect of their own supply deals. As a result the UK Government, amongst others, will have to address refund and compensation claims running into hundreds of millions of pounds.
