It aims facilitate entry to professions in inland navigation, improve career prospects and make jobs in the sector more attractive. Background information: The proposal was put forward by the European Commission in February 2016. It is part of EU efforts to promote inland waterway transport under the NAIADES II programme. An interinstitutional agreement on a compromise text was reached in June 2017. The Council of the European Union formally endorsed on 4 December 2017 a proposal on setting up a common system of certificates for people working in the inland navigation sector in the European Union. |
