The European Commission on 31 January 2006 welcomed the adoption of a series of measures by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), designed to protect fish stocks and the marine environment in the region. The GFCM held its 30th session in Istanbul, Turkey, 24-27 January 2006.
