'Special advisers' or 'Counsellors'; who shape policy at the highest level in Brussels by advising European Commissioners are to be named for the first time, after one was dismissed for a perceived conflict of interest, February 2007.

This followed Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) CEO writing an open letter to Europeam Energy Commissioner Piebalgs in January 2007 expressing concern about the fact that Rolf Linkohr 'at the same time directs a commercial lobbying consultancy and acts as a special adviser to the Energy Commissioner'.
