Press Release: Dialogue on Europe: the challenges of institutional reform: first public debate on 8 March 2000

On 15.2.00 the Commission decided to encourage a 'dialogue on Europe' in order to promote public debate between European and national political leaders and the people of Europe on the issues at stake in the reform of the institutions, notably in the run-up to enlargement. This initiative is in parallel to the Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) on the reform of the institutions that will run throughout 2000 and then contine in 2001 with the ratification of the new treaty.
