The European Commission reported 20.12.99 that the German Bundesrat had not advanced as anticipated towards the lifting of the ban on Britsh beef. Urgent clarification is being sought from the German government. If it is confirmed that the procedure has been stalled, the European Commission would have to open legal proceedings against Germany possibly as soon as its meeting on Wednesday, 22 December 1999. |
