Date: 17/09/1998 Those continually persecuted fonctionnaires at the EU institutions can breathe a sigh of relief. It transpires that the Geneva-based World Trade Organisation, the agency which advocates the unfettered forces of free-market capitalism for everyone, also has its quaint little traditions. The organisation shut down for the annual Jeune Genève holiday last Thursday (10 September) and phone calls on Friday were greeted with the following helpful response: “It was a holiday yesterday and we are always closed on the following day.” |
