Date: 15/02/1996 Attendance at the Commission's daily midday briefing for the press is always at its highest on a Wednesday. No surprise, you might say, because Wednesday is the Commissioners' meeting day and that is when most proposals are adopted and most information given out. This is of course true, but on Wednesdays, and only on Wednesdays, tea and coffee are free for journalists at the bar just outside the briefing room. Why? Cynics might suggest it is designed to help ensure a good turn-out at Commissioners' press conferences... |
