This paper reviews the institutional arrangements for euro area exchange rate policy. It retraces the historical background, highlights the main issues that have been covered in the international debate on the issue and takes stock of the first two and a half years' experience with euro exchange rate policy in practice. It also provides a brief outlook on possible future challenges euro area policymakers may face with regard to the institutional design of exchange rate policy. |
