Apple and several big music record companies are facing a European Commission antitrust probe after the Commission issued formal charges, 2 April 2007, alleging that the deals underpinning the sale of music through the popular iTunes platform violated competition rules. Apple said it had always wanted to offer a fully pan-European service but was restricted by the demands of its music partners.
