Press Release: EU to deploy Election Observation Mission to Mauritania Presidential Elections

Following an invitation from the Government of Mauritania, the European Commission has decided to deploy an EU Election Observation Mission (EOM) to Mauritania for the Presidential elections scheduled to take place on 11 March 2007. The EU EOM will be led by French Member of the European Parliament, Marie-Anne Isler-Béguin. These elections follow the recent municipal and legislative elections, also observed by the EU, and will complete the electoral cycle launched by the Mauritanian authorities 6 months ago with the successful constitutional referendum.
