The US is pushing its Nato allies to send more troops and support to help in Afghanistan, October 2006. Officials say Washington is putting pressure on Spain, France, Italy and Germany, all of which have soldiers elsewhere in the country, to free up their troops to move into the south, where the most bitter fighting in Afghanistan is taking place.
