Germany's coalition government has reached agreement, 3 November 2006, on slashing business taxes from 2008, in a bid to improve the country's competitiveness. It is also predicted that Germany's budget deficit will fall in 2007 to its lowest level since before unification thanks to surging tax revenues and efforts by Angela Merkel's government to restore order to public finances.
