The crisis over the leadership of Airbus, the European aircraft maker, deepened at 7-8 October 2006 as EADS, the parent company, began the search for a possible successor to Christian Streiff, who handed in his resignation as Airbus chief executive. It is understood that EADS is considering the appointment of Louis Gallois, French co-chief executive of EADS, as Airbus chief executive together with the reinstatement of a chief operating officer at Airbus to look after day-to-day operations.
