Press Release: Mergers: Commission clears planned acquisition of Cleanaway Holdings Limited by Veolia ES, subject to conditions

The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of Cleanaway by Veolia ES Holdings plc, both UK waste management service providers. The Commission's clearance is conditional upon the divestiture of Veolia’s current high temperature incinerator (HTI) facility at Fawley, which will ensure that the merged company will continue to have at least one commercial viable competitor on the market for the thermal treatment/incineration of hazardous industrial and commercial (I&C) waste by HTI. In light of this commitment, the Commission has concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.
