Summary: Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006 - adopted by the co-legislators on 14 June 2006 - concerning the shipments of waste. Further information: This Regulation - also known as theĀ Waste Shipment Regulation (WSR) - lays down rules for controlling waste shipments in order to improve environmental protection. It also incorporates the provisions of theĀ Basel Convention and the revision of the OECD's 2001 Decision on the control of transboundary movements of wastes destined for recovery operations in EU law. The draft law was tabled by the European Commission on 30 June 2003, aiming to revise Regulation (EEC) No 259/93. It was seen as strengthening and simplifying the existing control procedures. The proposal also headed towards greater international harmonisation of waste shipments. The European Parliament adopted its position on 19 November, which the Commission followed up by adoption an amended proposal on 28 January 2014. The Council adopted a common position on 24 June 2005, which was followed by a further Commission Communication on 1 July. The Parliament adopted a further position on 25 October, to which the Commission reacted on 1 December. It was formally signed by the Council and the European Parliament on 14 June 2016. It was published in the Official Journal on 12 July 2006. |
