Press Release: PNR: EDPS first reaction to the Court of Justice judgment

Initial reaction of the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) to the judgment of the European Court of Justice on 30 May 2006 in the two PNR-cases concerning the transfer of flight passenger's personal data to the United States. The EDPS had used, for the first time in these cases, his powers to intervene before the Court in support of the European Parliament. In this judgement the Court decided to annul the decisions of the Council and the Commission on which the access of US authorities to PNR-data of European airlines was based, without entering into the substance of these decisions.
