Disparity in carbon permits emerges

Article reports that according to data released onto the internet in error by the European Commission on 12 May 2006, UK businesses will have to reduce their greenhouse gases far more than those in other Member States because of the way the Emissions Trading Scheme was set up. The data shows that UK businesses were issued with few permits than they needed, forcing them to reduce emissions. In some Member States, companies were issued with more permits than they needed.
The European Commission was due to publish on 15 May 2006 the first official review of Member States' emissions.
