Press Release: Greece: Commission warns Greece to comply with Court rulings in the field of environment

The European Commission on 7 April 2006 sent first warnings to Greece to comply with European Court of Justice rulings in two cases. The first one concerned the building of an urban waste water collecting and treatment system in the Thriassio Pedio area, to avoid polluting the Gulf of Elefsina. The second case concerned the lack of protection of wild birds in the Messolongi lagoon, which was designated as a special protection area under the Wild Birds Directive and is part of the Natura 2000 EU-wide network of protected nature sites.
